IFZA vs Meydan: an honest comparison for 2026

Calvera ConsultingUpdated July 20266 min read

Ask five consultants "IFZA or Meydan?" and you'll get five confident answers, each one quietly shaped by which zone pays that consultant the better referral fee. This comparison is different: we disclose our arrangements and we don't care which one you pick. Here's how the two most popular Dubai free zones for small and medium businesses actually compare.

The short answer

Both are legitimate, fast, and cost-effective. The real differences that should drive your decision:

For many founders the honest answer is: the differences are smaller than any consultant makes them sound, and the right pick depends on your activity, visa count, and banking needs, not the brochure.

Where consultants mislead you

Three claims to be skeptical of, because we've heard all of them pitched:

  1. "Banks prefer [zone X]." Banks assess your activity, your profile, your business plan, and your paperwork. The free zone name on the license matters far less than consultants suggest, both IFZA and Meydan companies open accounts routinely, and both get rejected when the file is weak.
  2. "[Zone X] is more prestigious." Your customers will almost never know or care which free zone you're registered in. Prestige matters in a handful of B2B contexts; for most founders it's a sales line, not a factor.
  3. "This price is only available today." Both zones run promotions continuously. Urgency pressure is a commission tactic, not a market reality.

The questions that actually decide it

The right free zone is the one that fits your activity, visa plan, and banking profile, not the one with the best referral fee.
